The Brief:

MAK & Associates are an architectural design firm that has been in operation since 1999. They have designed countless structures in a variety of different styles - from modern home design to commercial complexes, all the way to temples and places of worship. During their time, MAK has created a reputation for creating some of the best architectural work in Auckland. But directors Manoj and Kavita recognised that their website was falling behind in terms of presentation, so they asked us to bring their website up to a standard that matches their top-tier architectural work.
A website with images of a building and a building.

The challenge:

The existing website for MAK & Associates was showing signs of age, and the overall operation of the site wasn’t as polished or even as functional as the architectural work the client puts out. So things needed to change. A slick, well-built, intuitive website was in order - both to showcase the incredible work they do and to show that MAK is serious about design of any type, even if it’s a website. The biggest issue in this situation was the lack of suitable quality images of the buildings they had created. With any other type of client, we could have taken images from Shutterstock, but this job required photos of certain buildings in particular.
A spacious stone house with a sturdy fence and a closed gate, exuding an air of grandeur and security.

The Solution:

After coming to the same conclusion with our client about the fact that this would be a photography-intensive job, we were given an extensive list of locations to shoot. We then worked with MAK to make sure the appropriate building owners were notified and set a plan to conduct a photo shoot for each and every building. Over the course of a few weeks, upwards of 30 locations had been shot and edited, ready for the site build. While they came in, these images were also shortlisted by the client and were then ordered by us to find the best arrangement for each building’s project page.

The Outcome:

One goal shared in parallel between architecture and website building is the goal of creating an aesthetically appealing end product. By being able to control the quality of images going in, we had full control over the quality of the website coming out. So with some input from the design team, the MAK website had no issue looking great. But another parallel with architectural work is that the result of the project needs to be functional. Our team created an in-depth categorisation system, along with an intuitive navigation system, to make using the MAK & Associates site a breeze. With all of these project pages paired with an overhaul of the rest of the old site, it’s fair to say that the new MAK & Associates website is now portraying the brand to the high standard it should be.
